New identity, same mission: Sustainable Suffolk builds on ‘Greenest County’ legacy

Sustainable Suffolk is the new identity for the county’s collaborative effort to combat climate change, enhance our environment and build our energy resilience. This is an evolution of the former ‘Creating the Greenest County’ partnership.

Sustainable Suffolk represents how the county’s public sector organisations, including Suffolk’s local councils, NHS and police service, are working together to support our residents, communities, and businesses to make low carbon choices.

This includes delivering the Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan which has introduced a variety of projects and initiatives to lower carbon emissions, such as:

  • Offering free energy efficiency assessments for homeowners, helping them to understand how they can keep their home warm and energy bills low
  • Placing community electric vehicles that can be booked out by Suffolk drivers to negate the need for second or occasion-use car ownership
  • Launching a dedicated support network for our schools, to help them develop climate action plans and support their students’ environmental education
  • Providing a range of support for our businesses to help them reduce energy costs and develop innovative low carbon solutions

Councillor Gerald Kelly, Chair of the Suffolk Councils’ Environment Portfolio Holders’ Group, said:

“The Creating the Greenest County partnership was launched in 2007, making Suffolk a pioneer among local authorities, coming together to address the impacts of climate change and protect and enhance our environment.

“Though we have a new name, Sustainable Suffolk will continue the same level of ambition when it comes to helping Suffolk’s residents, businesses and schools lower their carbon emissions and energy bills. This new brand will allow us to better communicate our work in a more accessible and clear way.”
