Homes from hemp: a more sustainable...Last week, the Bury St Edmunds bike train completed its third academic year of helping primary students travel to school more sustainably.
newsOn Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, a hoard of climate warriors take to the streets of Bury St Edmunds. Their weapons of choice? Bikes and helmets. Their mission? To get to school on time!
Thanks to the staff and incredible volunteers of the EcoCarriers community group, these families can travel to school in a healthier way for both themselves and the planet.

On the last ride of the 2024/25 academic year, the students received awards for the number of cycles they had taken part in with the train.
One student had completed 70 rides!
Together, these families are keeping fit, lowering their carbon footprints and improving air quality in Bury St Edmunds.
The bike train currently offers three routes. If you have primary school aged students, why not consider joining the bike train this September?
Parents are welcome to accompany their children on the bike train but competent year 5 and 6 pupils are welcome to join without a parent. Fill out this form to get on board!

This project was partly funded by the Suffolk Public Sector Leader’s Community Match Funder.
The EcoCarriers team don’t just run the bike train, they have been encouraging cycling in Bury St Edmunds for years in other ways whether that’s through offering net zero shopping deliveries or taking people to and from doctors appointments on their pedalcab.
