Homes from hemp: a more sustainable...13 November 2024
Did you know that by the end of 2025, all schools are required by the Department for Education to have a Climate Action Plan in place? That means schools without a plan only have a year left to designate a Sustainability Lead in in their staff team and write their plan!
newsBut what is a Climate Action Plan and where do schools start? A Climate Action Plan sets out the actions a school will take to lower their carbon emissions to zero and take action for nature.
This might sound like a big task considering schools account for a whole 2% of the UK’s carbon emissions. But luckily, schools in Suffolk now have the Suffolk Sustainable Schools Network.
By signing your school up to the network, we can help you with every step towards creating your Climate Action Plan for free. More than half of Suffolk’s state secondary schools have already signed up since its creation this summer.
In their first virtual meeting, the collection of school Sustainability Leads explored ways to enhance Climate Education with presentations from Little Green Change & Teach the Teacher, and discussed a case study of how Comberton Village College has integrated sustainability into their curriculum.
If you are a secondary school teacher or staff member in Suffolk, you don’t want to miss the next meeting!
