The community energy groups within the Suffolk Community Energy Network are all not-for-profit local community energy projects which exist to support community-led action on climate change.

Charsfield Community Energy

Charsfield Community Energy is exploring renewable energy and low-carbon initiatives including solar and wind generation, battery storage, heat pumps and electric car clubs. Following successful government funding for a renewable energy feasibility study, the group is raising awareness of the potential environmental and financial benefits these projects could bring to the village and wider community.

Community Energy Bury St Edmunds

Community Energy BSE aims to help Bury St Edmunds and surrounding villages transition to a low-carbon future, with a vision for local energy needs to be met entirely through renewable sources. It supports community-owned renewable energy projects, energy efficiency and low-carbon energy adoption, while raising awareness of climate change and sustainable initiatives.

Deben Climate Centre

Deben Climate Centre is Community-grown and is focused on providing understanding of how the growing pace of climate change is already affecting our local environment. These projects include the wide-ranging testing of our river environment, a Community Energy company, a Community food farm, and a Community Hub.

Hadleigh HEAT

Hadleigh HEAT is now part of the Communipower project in Suffolk, helping residents reduce their energy bills through improved insulation and heat pumps. The group has recruited five community energy champions and a coordinator, and is working with Polstead, Boxford, Bildeston and other local villages to expand the initiative.

Heating Bildeston

Heating Bildeston aims to develop a community heat network providing affordable, renewable heat for hot water and radiators. The project seeks to reduce residents’ energy costs and exposure to price fluctuations, while lowering the community’s carbon footprint, and is keen to work with and support other groups pursuing similar goals.

Net Zero Leiston

Net Zero Leiston (NZL) is an ambitious initiative aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions while creating a sustainable, eco-friendly environment for local residents. Since its inception in July 2020, They are involved in energy efficiency, sustainable transport, biodiversity increase, raising awareness of climate change and the need to reduce carbon emissions.

Stour Power Community Energy

Stour Power Community Energy is a not-for-profit group bringing community-owned renewable energy to the Stour Valley. They are exploring solar PV on schools, community buildings, and businesses, plus heat networks and pumped hydro—empowering residents with clean, local energy rooted in the area’s rich heritage.

Suffolk Green Cluster

Suffolk Green Cluster brings together parishes and green groups across West and Mid-Suffolk to pool resources and deliver community renewable energy projects. Its work spans energy, housing, transport, food and biodiversity, with current projects including solar PV, ground-source heat pumps, onshore wind and agrivoltaics, alongside renewable energy initiatives with local community facilities and businesses.
