Grant brings lower bills and warmer homes for Suffolk residents

14 October 2026

Residents across Suffolk have benefitted from energy efficiency improvements through the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WHLG) scheme, helping to create warmer homes, lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.

Across Suffolk, 156 homes have been supported through the scheme, with a total of £3.19 million invested in energy efficiency and heating improvements.

From April 2025 to August 2026, the following measures were installed across Suffolk:

122 homes received solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery systems
47 homes received air source heat pumps

The WHLG scheme, which is now closed to applications, was available to eligible households based on criteria including a household income of £36,000 or less and an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below. The scheme was funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and managed by Suffolk County Council on behalf of councils across Suffolk.

Of the homes supported through the scheme, 78% of properties previously rated EPC D improved to an EPC rating between A and C. A higher EPC rating indicates better energy efficiency and can help households reduce their energy bills.

Residents who received improvements have reported reduced energy consumption, lower utility costs and increased comfort during colder weather.

One Suffolk resident who received loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solar PV panels and a battery through the scheme said:

“I’m very happy with the completed works. All the tradespeople were friendly and completed the work in a professional manner. They were respectful of the property and tidied up after the work was completed. The communication was excellent and I was kept informed throughout the process. I am very satisfied with the end result and the house is a lot warmer!”

The Warm Homes: Local Grant scheme is currently closed to new applications following a successful campaign. Updates on the scheme can be found here: Warm Homes Suffolk.
