Homes from hemp: a more sustainable...Right now, you could be paying more than you need to heat your home. This is because you might not have everything you need to keep the heat you are generating inside your walls which means you’re generating more energy than you need to.
newsMaking your home more energy efficient means taking steps to trap that heat inside where it can keep your family warm and your heating bills down.
Everyone knows not to leave the door open when it’s chilly outside. We’ve all been asked were you born in a barn? But what else can you do to make heating your home to the same temperature cheaper?

You could start with getting an energy assessment of your home. An assessment will look at all the ways a home can be made more energy efficient and figure out which of those methods best suits you and your home.
With Warm Homes Suffolk, you can get this assessment completely for free if your home is under 98m² and has an EPC rating of below C or your home is unrated. The most you will pay for a home bigger than 98m² is £30 for an assessment. These assessments typically cost over £250 but are being funded by Suffolk’s Public Sector Organisations (aka the local authorities and services in your county). There is also absolutely zero obligation to take forward any recommended work on your home.
Sound too good to be true? It’s not! Over 200 of these free assessments have already been conducted across the county which has saved Suffolk residents £87,000.
These residents will save even more money on energy bills if they choose to implement the assessment’s recommendations. Though this isn’t a requirement, there is an interest-free loan scheme available to help you make energy efficient upgrades, for example insulation, solar panels, batteries, glazing or heat pumps.
If you own a home in Suffolk, get started by first checking your EPC on the gov.uk website. If your home is rated below C or no rating is provided, visit suffolkenergyassessment.co.uk to enquire about your free assessment.
There is less than a year to claim one of the remaining 400 free assessments so what are you waiting for?
