Making the Switch: A Suffolk Engineer’s...
Almost 2,000 Suffolk residents registered for a personalised heat pump quote with the Switch together scheme, and almost 300 residents have accepted the offer so far.
Switch Together is a council-backed group buying scheme that helps residents switch to low carbon heating more easily and affordably. The heat pump scheme allowed Suffolk residents to register for a free personalised heat pump installation offer tailored to their homes, offering competitive prices from vetted, trusted installers.
newsHeat pumps are a modern and efficient alternative to traditional gas or oil boilers: they are up to 3 times more energy efficient, and also produce lower carbon emissions. To work, they draw in natural heat from the outside air, (even in winter!), and bring it indoors.
After the continued success of the Switch Together Solar panels scheme, the heat pump scheme was introduced as another way to help residents access more efficient energy and heating.
The switch together scheme also helped eligible residents make use of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which is a government scheme offering grants of up to £9,000 to help towards the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems. After registering, the experts then researched if your home was suitable for a heat pump, what funding you could be eligible for, and how much the installation would cost. With no obligation to proceed, it has been a successful way for residents to find out more about low-carbon heating.
The scheme has been incredibly popular – and now that that the scheme has closed, we have seen almost 300 residents accept their personalised quotes so far! This means they will be installing a heat pump for their home using trusted installers.
If you missed the heat pump scheme and are interested in learning how you can make your home more energy efficient, there are always options.
We are currently running our ‘Keep the Heat’ scheme, where you can borrow a thermal camera for free to see where your home might be losing heat and where it might benefit from improved insulation. You can also find current grants and funding opportunities available here on our website.
This project is funded by Suffolk’s Public Sector Leaders as part of their efforts to make Suffolk more sustainable for people and the environment.
