There are easy and free things you can do reduce the amount of electricity and gas you use, without sacrificing the warmth and comfort of your home:
- Spend less time in the shower – aim for 4 minutes
- Don’t leave appliances on standby, turn them off
- Run your washing machine at 30C or lower
- Only boil the water you need in the kettle
- Turn down your thermostat by 1C
- Turn down radiators in rooms you use less often
If you can invest some money on bigger solutions, you could consider:
- Solar panels
- Battery storage
- A heat pump
- Replace an old boiler with a more energy efficient one
- Floor and wall insulation for both solid walls and cavity walls
- Install smart thermostats and heating controls
